A separation agreement may be most advisable when the parties have very different financial situations, such as when one spouse is the wage-earner and the other is raising the couple's children.

FAMILY RIGHTS COALITION OF MICHIGAN

Mission Statement

The Family Rights Coalition of Michigan believes that family is the cell of a society. In the healthy family, love and unconditional devotion yields the highest form of human connectivity. Communities and nations founded on healthy families create the greatest promise for a moral and economically vibrant society. Connectedness inspired by family relationships transcends all time, generations, ethnicities and geography. It creates a rich human tapestry and a fullness of life not achievable by any other means.

Family is the foundation and center of a dynamic, civil society and a robust, growing economy that allows people to develop, grow and achieve far more than they could on their own. We believe that the institution of marriage provides natural safeguards for children, parents and the entire family that a just and free nation must labor to protect.

We believe every child has a birthright to be parented equally, fully and lovingly by a father and a mother alike unencumbered by state interference even when circumstances require parents to parent apart. We affirm also that a child benefits from the love, guidance and nurturance of all family members including grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. To these ends, the Family Rights Coalition of Michigan dedicates itself to safeguarding marriage and the parent-child bond through fellowship, education, community involvement, and political activism.

Help Those You Love: Save Marriages Now!

The Family Rights Coalition is working to bring Community Marriage Policies (CMP) and all their benefits to Michigan.

All the brokenness we are experiencing here in Michigan stems from a breakdown in Marriage. Both our societal and our economic problems stem from family dissolution. It is no coincidence that Michigan has one of the highest rates of family breakdown and that the two highest State budget items are the Department of Human Services and Corrections. When families breakdown, a plethora of pathologies result:

Much higher rates of:
Drug abuse,
Alcohol Abuse,
Promiscuous Sex,
Gang Violence,
Domestic Violence (80% of Domestic violence occurs in co-habitating situations.),
Crime,
Co-habitation,
Divorce,
and a basic devaluation of human life result.

Area divorce rates and co-habitation rates are climbing while marriage rates have fallen 50% since 1970. These pathologies are well documented in the white paper.

A study was done in 2001 that proved the effectiveness of these techniques in 170 cities (now 220 cities) around the country. SE Michigan is the first time it's been tried on the county wide level. Michigan's problems are so deep, we need to think big! The CMP seed planted in Macomb County in March now has three times as many signers. We foresee these initiatives growing steadily.

This is non-denominational effort. This is a call to bring all faiths together to rebuild the State of Michigan, one family at a time, and to set certain requirements to build effective and long lasting marriages.

We have an initiative going in SE Michigan to strengthen marriage. We started Community Marriage Policies (CMP) in Macomb County in March 2009 and Wayne County in September 2009. These are proven techniques as developed by Mike McManus of marriagesavers.org. We see this initiative going state wide.

We just completed a Clergy/Mentor Couple Training Seminar on the evening of Friday, November 13th and all day Saturday, November 14th. Training was held at Zion Christian Church in Troy. We will be holding another training seminar in February or March 2010 timeframe. We will also be organizing an Oakland County Community Marriage Policy Signing about that same time. Watch this site for the new dates. Please consider becoming a clergy leader or mentor couple at your Michigan church, synagogue, mosque or place of worship. The need is great!
